On Friday, November 8, 2024, 84 year old world traveler, Vista Boyles “Vickie” Harrison, embarked on her greatest journey. She had booked the trip as a teenager when she gave her life to Christ. There were no bags to pack, as everything she could need or want had been sent ahead through service to the Lord of her life.
Vickie was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church since 1961 where she taught four and five year old children in Sunday School for many years. Her husband, the late Johnny Harrison served alongside her as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.
Together, Johnny and Vickie had two children. As she would often relate: “I told the Lord I wanted a boy first, and He sent me Michael Harrison. Then I said I would love a little girl, and He gave me just what I wanted, Marquita Harrison Pope. Then I said, ‘No more, Lord!’ I was blessed with all I needed.”
Others that Vickie was blessed to call family were her father, the late Feimster O. Boyles, and her mother, the late Emma Hardin Boyles; a predeceased infant sister, Patsy Boyles; her late sister, Wanda Jane Austin; her late son-in-law, Phillip Pope; late brothers-in-law Owen Harrison, Kenner Beecroft, Grover Austin, June Woods, G.S. Harris; late sisters-in-law Mary Boyles, Mavis Woods, Joyce Harris; and late nephew Danny Harrison.
In addition to Michael and Marquita, those left here to cherish Vickie’s memory include: Michael’s wife, Ginny; Vickie’s brother Bob Boyles of Wilmington; her sister Sondra Thornton and husband Richie of London, England; her grandchildren Shea Gilbert, Logan Miller and wife Hannah, Emily Sandifer, Bryan Sandifer, Samuel Sandifer, Chris Pope and wife Sherri, Tamara Pope, Ashley Pope and fiancé Justice Geran; and a treasured great-granddaughter Madalyn Gilbert; nephews and nieces Tim Austin, Kim Austin, Kristal Neal, Kelli Boyles, Scott Boyles, Tony Harrison, Tina Harrison, Annette Harrison, Gary Woods, Ronnie Woods, David Woods, Jeffrey Woods, Reneé Phillips, Katrina Benton, Joel Harris, and Jason Harris.
A graveside service of remembrance will be held on November 30 at 2:00 PM in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, located at 3120 Falling Creek Rd, Hickory, NC 28601. In lieu of flowers, our family requests that tributes be made to The Gideons International at PO Box 517, Taylorsville, NC 28681 or to Finding Hope Global Ministries at PO Box 309, Taylorsville, NC 28681. And we are grateful to Medi Home Hospice Services for their loving devotion to our mother in her final months. Drum Funeral Home of Hickory is honored to be serving the Harrison family.
