Wade Edward Hefner

Wade Edward Hefner, 91, of Hickory went home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2018 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born February 17, 1927 in Catawba County, NC, he was the son of the late Herbert Lee Hefner and Gertie Ida Little Hefner. A member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA, he was a veteran of the US Navy and served during World War II. He was a volunteer with the St. Stephens Fire Department where he served 33 years with 10 of those years as chief. He also was retired from the Top Quality Frame Co. and was a life time member of the American Legion where he served on the legion honor guard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty Drum Hefner; brothers, Roy Hefner and Fred Hefner, Sr. and sister, Della Stinson.

Left to cherish his memory is a son, Douglas Hefner and wife Tami of Conover; daughter, Susan Neal and husband Robert of Bethlehem; grandchildren, Ben Hefner of Charlotte and Logan Hefner of Chapel Hill; and sisters, Allie Huffman of Conover and Essie Weaver of Hickory.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA in Hickory with the Rev. Greg Brown officiating. A private burial with military rites will precede the service in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Allie, Essie, Doug and Susan, our hearts are breaking along with yours. Uncle Wade was a wonderful man. Always full of life. Please know we are here for you and your families when you need us. May God grant you peace and comfort during this difficult time. Keeping you in our prayers.
