

Dr. Alberto L. Cayton, M.D, of Melville, NY, known as Bert to all who knew and loved him passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024. Bert came to the U.S from the Philippines in 1968. He began his medical career in Morristown NJ before becoming a well-regarded general surgeon at Brooklyn Hospital for over 50 years and when he “retired” from practicing surgery in 2021, he taught it. His love of medicine and teaching knew no bounds. Bert was a well-respected man in both his personal and professional life. You would be hard pressed to find someone who did not love Bert Cayton.
When Bert was not working, he loved being with this family, telling hours and hours’ worth of stories about all the people he met and adventures he had over the course of his life, and we cannot forget about his jokes, Bert LOVED to tell jokes.
Bert is survived by his wife of 50 Years, Theresa, his son’s Gary (Allison) Chris and daughter Karen Signore (Stephen) his 3 grandchildren whom he adored, Lorna, Frank and Freddie, his sister Merle Venus, his brother-in-law and sister- in-law Anthony and Diane Cipollone and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, from 4pm-8pm at 125 W. Old Country Road, Hicksville, New York. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Pius X RC Church, 270 Washington Ave., Plainview, with burial following at Melville Cemetery, Sweet Hollow Rd., Melville, where Bert will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Bert will be remembered fondly for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
