Wow, I can't believe it has been four years since we lost beautiful Doreen.  I was just in Italy with mutual friends that we shared and we were remembering many great times we've had with her in the U.S. and abroad.  While we were talking about her, a beautiful butterfly fluttered around us for longer than expected and we were all convinced that it was a sign from Doreen.  I miss her and think of her often and know that she's resting in peace.  I hope that her family is taking good care and that she makes her presence known to them, too.

As I look back on my encounters with Doreen I see her in Denver, New York, and Milan.  We shared many special adventures together that are times I will cherish.  Our sincere condolences to the family.

My heartfelt condolences to Doreen's family and close friends as you mourn the loss of a beautiful soul.  I met Doreen in the summer of 1985 while backpacking in Europe - we actually met in Santorini, Greece, as she was traveling with her friend, Glen & I was traveling with my friend, Timmy.  The four of us struck up a friendship & Doreen & I have stayed in touch ever since.    Doreen was always so full of life & happiness, & was a dear friend even though we didn't see each other as often as I would've like.  The last time I saw her was when she recently came to Denver for training for her job with Le Creuset.  She bought us a lovely teapot from the store and every time I use it, I think of her.  She had been on my mind after the COVID shutdowns & I kept meaning to call her since we hadn't spoken for quite a while after her Denver visit, & that's when I learned of her illness, in April of 2020.   Needless to say I was shocked and deeply saddened that my dear friend was going through such a painful time battling the treatment & ravages of cancer.  I was happy to hear that she was living with her sister in New York and that she was optimistic about recovering enough to eventually come out west to visit Sedona, AZ, where lots of healings  take place.  I was already starting to look into healers there when I got the news that she was in hospice.  It was truly heartbreaking  & I said as many prayers as I could for her peaceful passing.  Luckily, I was able to send her flowers and a beautiful card letting her know how much I loved her and treasured our 30+ years of friendship before it was too late.  She took a picture of herself with the flowers and although she looked very ill, she still radiated bravery and beauty.  Doreen was beautiful both inside & out, & her laughter, storytelling, & beloved friendship will last with me for the rest of my life.  May she rest in peace & may her family & friends find comfort in the innumerable memories they have of her enjoying life. 

Doreen was my daughter Nicole ‘s roommate when she was in Plainview Hosp. in Aug.  Doreen was an inspiration talking to her sisters and Mom. I thought you would have had time for your family vacation. So sorry to have read of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.     Sincerely Maureen Welner & Nicole Mitchell
