Mary Deary at the New York Public Library, in 2017, where she volunteered for years. I remember her as a fellow volunteer.

She was generous, intelligent, and often hilariously funny. She was both worldly and childlike in the best way. She was one of a kind, lovable and irreplaceable.

A special memory…She used to write letters to me while I was in sleep away camp. Having my teacher write letters to me made me feel very special. My favorite memories of Fairfield elementary school include her!  She will be missed!

I worked at Fairfield School as the front door monitor and will always
remember you as a wonderful 5th grade teacher at the Fairfield school in Massapequa L.I..  You always had such a lively and uplifting personality...you were always good for a laugh.  I am sure that you will always be remembered by your former students and what you left them with....  Rest in peace

Ms. Deary was my fifth grade teacher in 87-88.  She started every class with a word game and gave out points that led to free homework passes.  All of the students thought this was genius!  Her ability to teach us important lessons while having fun was incredible.  We still talk about our end of the year party…Dirty Dancing was a huge hit and we played the soundtrack while practicing the “lift”.  She let us move the desks and have the best day! Her humor and sarcasm was one of a kind.  I’m so thankful we reconnected all these later on FB.  She was one of a kind. ❤️

Ms. Deary was a wonderful teacher, respected and revered by her students throughout the years.  I remember a time when she was reading to the class, classroom lights were off, and at some point she quietly opened and then slammed shut her desk drawer.  We jumped!  She laughed!!  But we loved her for it.  She will always be remembered fondly.  May these memories help comfort her family now and always.

Miss Deary was my 5th grade teacher in 1971. She was my favorite teacher in all my years of education she was encouraging, funny and really related to “her kids”. God Bless you our dear ladt

Ms. Deary was always my favorite teacher.  I had her at Fairfield in 1985 and we had the best class that year!  I really connected with Ms. Deary as a student…she was kind, sarcastic, funny, engaging and she made you feel like she really cared.  The world lost a good one.  She will be missed and always remembered by so many of us.
