Eugene Michael Harty

Eugene M. Harty, formerly of Hicksville, died peacefully at Huntington Hills in Melville, after long battles with diabetes, heart issues and epilepsy. (1948-2022). He was the son of the late John and Imojean Harty. He leaves behind siblings John, Kathleen and Sharon and his adoring nieces and nephews, Alison and Bridget, John D.,Joe and Ryan, as well as numerous beloved cousins and friends.

From an early age, Gene “Homeboy” was a Special Needs student. Special he was! Overcoming many challenges in a kind, loving, sweet, sensitive and grateful way, he taught us much! He was blessed with a special Irish sense of humor, a booming voice and an infectious laugh. He graduated from Hicksville High School with a special diploma and went on to work as a custodian at Cantiague Park for 35 years.

Gene was a man of great belief in God and he was a faithful communicant at St. Ignatius in Hicksville for over 50 years. He was a special member of the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years.

Gene was special to everyone and he will be greatly missed. A very special Thank You to Gene’s special angels-Karen and Beth- who cared for him, gave him comfort, and watched over him faithfully for the past 10 years. Your kindness, understanding and patience was a blessing.
