

George R. Essig, formerly of Bethpage, passed away peacefully February 2, 2015 at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Anna Essig, daughter Lynn Essig Engel, son-in-law Stephen Engel, son Christopher Essig, daughter-in-law Doreen Essig, brother Lars C. Kirkegard III and sister-in-law Irene Kirkegard. He was a devoted grandfather of 4 and great grandfather of 2.
George was a creative individual who acted as a life coach for many people. He shared his wisdom and knowledge of the world with everyone around him. George and Anna had a loving relationship which lasted over 60 years. In the floral industry, he was a prominent man working most of his career at Proschel's Flowers in Westbury, NY, participating in flower shows and enjoying many friendships. In his spare time he was a woodworker gifting many of his creations to friends and family. In his early life, George was active as a Mason and was a member for 60 years. George enjoyed dinners, trips and many other great adventures with his friends in the German Club.
An event celebrating his life will be held at the end of April at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, in Hicksville, NY. The next morning he will be put to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY
Details of the celebration will be sent out by the end of February and will also be posted on the funeral website. This future date will allow our loved ones in different states and countries to come and join us.
