Helen A. Kurczewski, a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 103. She was born on September 14, 1921, in Massachusetts to William and Helen Blackham. Helen was the cherished wife of the late John G. Kurczewski, with whom she shared 49 loving years of marriage. Prior to starting her family, Helen enjoyed working at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City during WWII, where she met many coworkers that became great friends.
Helen's family was at the center of her life. She is survived by her children, Jane McCormack (Jack), Karen Kurczewski, John Kurczewski, Jr. (Shirley), and Douglas Kurczewski. She was a devoted and adored grandmother to Kristen Lenart (Matt) and Ken McCormack (Tammie), and a doting Grandma GG to her beloved great-grandchildren Trevor, Braydon, Colton and Kellen. Helen was the dear sister of Irma Earley (Robert), and preceded in death by her sister, Arline Ibert (Joseph) and brother, William Blackham Jr.(Eileen).
Helen enjoyed spending time with family, baking her famous crumb cake and cheesecake that were a staple of every occasion. She loved spending time in her garden and having weekly get-togethers with the ladies on her block to talk and sew. There are many warm memories of the holidays at her home; especially at Christmas, as every room was decorated for everyone to enjoy. Helen was truly a sweet, caring woman who brought joy and unconditional love to everyone around her with her beautiful smile. She instilled the importance of family to each of her children and ensured that they were always there for each other which she lived by every day. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to Helen’s heart.
