December 10, 1946 – October 19, 2026
Madeline Baierlein, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 19, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved her deeply and countless people whose lives were touched by her kindness, generosity, and fun-loving spirit.
Born in Manhattan on December 10, 1946, Madeline was the beloved daughter of Ann and Paul. She grew up with her parents, brother, Butch, and sister, Terry, before settling in Nassau County with her husband, John. They met when Madeline was just 13 years old and married when she was 21. Together, they shared 46 years of marriage, raised six children, and built a strong, loving family.
Madeline had a special gift for making people feel welcome and loved. Her door was always open, and she made everyone feel as though she had all the time in the world for them. Kind, thoughtful, and never judgmental, she was someone people could turn to for a listening ear, a helping hand, or simply a good laugh. She always looked for the good in people and faced life's challenges with remarkable strength.
Family was the center of Madeline's world. She was a devoted mother to John, Tom, Nick, Paul, Bill, and Jenn; a loving mother-in-law to Jen, Beth, Andrea and Scott. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy: Amanda, Caragh, Thomas, Mike, Joe, Patrick, Ashleigh, Jameson, Sydney, Brianna B., Paulie, Lucas, Brianna W., Ryan, Kiersten, and Luka. She also held the memory of her beloved grandson, Andrew, close to her heart.
Madeline cherished being part of her grandchildren’s lives, cheering them on at games, recitals, concerts, and celebrations. She adored her granddogs and treasured the family she gained through marriage.
Sunday dinners were among her favorite traditions, filled with good food, laughter, and music. They usually began with a coffee soda and her favorite appetizer, taquitos, followed by fried chicken cutlets and spaghetti, and finished with either an ice cream soda or lemon Italian ice.
She loved singing along to the oldies, often turning kitchen utensils into microphones. She also enjoyed going to the movies, playing cards, Yahtzee, and Scrabble, and cheering on her beloved New York Mets. She had a special fondness for her trips to Atlantic City, where the slot machines were always a favorite attraction. Her mischievous, fun-loving spirit stayed with her throughout her life.
Madeline was a devoted wife who cared for John with extraordinary love and dedication during his illness. Her strength, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to her family were an example to all who knew her.
Above all, Madeline leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, resilience, laughter, and family traditions that will continue for generations. She taught those around her to look for the good, help one another, and keep putting one foot in front of the other when life gets difficult. She will be remembered not only for the love she gave but also for the way she made everyone around her feel loved.
Madeline is survived by her six children, grandchildren, sister Terry, brother Butch, extended family, and many dear friends. She will be deeply missed, but her warmth, humor, and love will live on in the countless memories she created and in every life she touched.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Northwell hospice team for their compassion, guidance, and support during Madeline's final seven months.
In honor of Madeline, the family welcomes flowers or memorial donations to Blythedale Children's Hospital.
