Michael Campisi

Mike grew up in a loving Italian American Catholic family sharing his upbringing with his Sister, Lillian and his Brother Ralph. His family would lovingly call him the Italian character Giufa, because of all his antics which made his family laugh whenever they would recall situations he got himself into.

After graduating from Bushwick High School, where he excelled in accounting, Mike was drafted in the US Navy serving 1944 to 1946 during World War II, as a Petty Officer Second Class.

Following his military service, Michael graduated from St. John’s University, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business. His careers included roles as a Public Accountant, and Auditor for the U.S. General Accounting Office. He owned and operated a sporting goods store in Locust Valley, and eventually founded Campisi Real Estate. Along the way, he married his beloved Wife, Joan, whom he met at a dance, and lived many years in Hicksville, New York.

They were blessed when their Daughter Loretta (Lori) entered their lives. Lori and her Husband, Randy, blessed him further with two Grandsons, James and Bill, both of whom he was extremely proud, and would often brag about. His blessings continued with his five Great Grandchildren, Erika, William, Matthew, Isabela, and Lily.

Mike enjoyed traveling throughout the world, visiting places like Italy, Australia, Egypt, France, Germany, and many others. He especially enjoyed, and would speak fondly of, a trip to Spain, which he took, in his 90s, with his Daughter Lori.

Mike had many other interests and hobbies and liked to keep active, physically and mentally, by jogging, dancing, playing golf, gardening (he was especially proud of his Rose of Sharon plants), birdwatching, participating in book and debate clubs, watching the news, going to OTB, as well as spending time with his brother Ralph, and hanging out with his friend Ralph.

In his later years Mike could be found in front of the TV watching the stock market or a sporting event, often yelling at the TV when neither would go his way. He also enjoyed verbally sparring, over politics, with his sister, Lil. They had many loud debates, but would always say, “I love you” when they finished debating, neither giving an inch, but would never hold a grudge.

Mike was an avid reader and enjoyed writing books too. He encouraged his family to also become lifelong readers.

Mike loved spending time with his family, often giving advice and encouragement. He was always interested in their lives and well-being and would encourage them to read, never give up, and to do something that made them happy.

Mike would often say that young people today should have mentors to help them through the trials of life.

His family was blessed to have him throughout their lives as their mentor, by taking an active role in their lives.

Michael Campisi was almost 101 when, after a brief illness, he passed on to his heavenly father.

He left behind his Daughter Lori, who gave him much joy and support throughout his life, his Son-in-Law Randy, and their children and Great Grand Children, as well as many Nieces, all of whom he loved very much and was loved in return.

Michael Campisi, Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle and Friend will leave a legacy of a long life well-lived and a long life well-loved… He will be missed.

Visitation will be held at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, 125 W Old Country Road, Hicksville, NY 11801 on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish, 129 S Broadway, Hicksville, NY 11801on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 am.

Entombment will follow at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Rd, Westbury, NY 11590.
