Noreen Johnston, a pillar of love and faith, passed away on March 31st, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion. She was born on October 29, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, to Hugh and Sara Johnston. Noreen was the beloved sister of the late Dorothy Johnston and the late Stanley Johnston.
As an aunt, Noreen was a source of boundless affection and guidance to her nieces and nephews: William Johnston (Donna), Gerri Ferguson (Ed Ferguson), Victoria Fellows (The late Bill Fellows), Douglas Ball (Donna), Andrew Ball, and David Ball. Her role extended beyond immediate family to become the cherished great aunt of Deborah Boyer (Roger Boyer), Edward Ferguson (Allison), Christopher Ferguson (Melissa), Amanda Wing (Arthur Wing), Denise Mulligan (Bryan Mulligan), Shawn Johnston (Carissa), Brian Fellows (Catherine), Douglas Ball (Jennifer), Randy Ball, Emily Pierson (Chris Pierson), and Darren Ball. Touching the lives of many as the adored friends of those from the United Methodist Church.
Devoted to her faith, Noreen was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Hicksville, New York. Her dedication was evident in her role as a Sunday school teacher, where she shared her wisdom and kindness with countless young hearts and she served on the United Methodist Women's Guild and the United Methodist book club.
Noreen's love for life was evident in her fondness for the beach, particularly Jones Beach, where she found solace and joy in the gentle embrace of the sea. She shared a special bond with her sister Dorothy, embarking on adventures to Ireland that created lasting memories of laughter and exploration.
Above all, Noreen cherished time spent with loved ones, especially the children whom she adored. Her nurturing spirit and genuine affection created a haven of love and laughter wherever she went. Whether it was through a shared laugh, a comforting embrace, or a gentle word of encouragement, Noreen touched the hearts of all who knew her.
