Uncle Bob took my young son, who he just met for the first time, into his basement to see his guns and he had a confederate dollar bill. He gave it to my son. He’s 20 years old now and still has that dollar bill. Bob made an impression on me, he always smiled and looked genuinely happy. I miss him..

Uncle Bob will always hold a special place in my heart. His infectious laugh and smile would light up any room he was in. He made everything fun and funny. Reflecting on his life, and contemplating my own, I hope to cherish and honor his memory by living, loving, and laughing. Because that’s exactly what I remember about him. ❤️

So sorry to hear the sad news , My condolences to the Mahoney family ,

We are so sorry for your great loss. May God comfort you through this time of transition. My prayers will be with you.

Bob and I have many memories together. Many of which centered around Bob's love for hunting and our shared love for the outdoors. Bob taught me how to hunt and we enjoyed many years of hunting and hiking together in the Shawangunk Mountains, The Gunks. Bob always had a knack for coming up with a clever moniker for things, and he coined the name of his cabin in Shawangunks "The Gunk Shack." A name that stands to this day. Bob played host to several friends and hunting companions over the years in The Gunk Shack. It was rustic and rough, just like Bob. But there was always a nice fire on cold nights that made it a comfortable, inviting, and a warm place to be, like Bob. Bob and I hunted up until just a few years ago. One of the last times we went about 4 years ago, Bob knew he might not be able to make it to his little hunting blind, even with assistance. I drove him up on Opening Day for a single day of hunting. We arrived late, about 10am. However, Bob’s enthusiasm and positivity whenever he was about to go hunting never waned. I helped him to his stand, and he said, “I’m going to make some doe calls and just wait, and you never know what might happen”. I went back to the cabin, thinking it was highly unlikely he would see a deer in the middle of the day. About 30 minutes later I heard a shot and looked out of the cabin to see a trophy worthy eight-point buck on the ground, taken with a single perfect shot from his .35 caliber lever action Marlin. Bob said the way the deer came in it’s as if God gifted him one more beautiful deer to cap his stellar hunting career. I agreed.

He was a great brother-in-law. His smile always lit up the room and you felt that warmth that was Bob. I will miss him.

My brother Bob was a larger than life person who was a huge inspiration for myself as a younger brother. He could be as tough as any man alive and had a heart of gold. He was mentor, friend and a brother in the truest sense of the word. A born athlete, fearless competitor and lover of the outdoors. He was most at peace at his camp in the Catskills. May he always be remembered for his open mind and willingness to help others . I am forever in his debt for all he taught me.
  His loving brother John Kevin

Bob and I met in the 8th grade and our close friendship continued over the next 70 years. We supported each other through good times and bad. Although we didn’t see each other as often in recent years, we still kept in close touch. Bob was a very special friend to me. Friends like Bob don’t come along often in a lifetime. I was fortunate to have known him, and I will miss him greatly. Sincere condolences to Fran and the family.

At Soundview Inn, Greenport, LI...several weekends here over the years

Many trips here to Tobay Beach- one of our favorite spots in summer

Bob, While there are too many memories to mention, a few stand outs come to mind. I fondly remember all the many outings we had and dinner times at the house the last few years. Many conversations, laughs, and sharing of memories. It was an inspiration the way both you and Mom never slowed down in your travels here in NY, all cross the country and internationally and engaging with family and friends until absolutely forced to. And caring for Mom all the way through, the way you loved the grandkids…and yes, all the cats…all brought out the best in you. I know you will find rest and peace now in the One who called you into the light, love, and joy of His presence.

Bob's last visit to his cherished Lake Minnewaska

Uncle Bob always had a smile on his face.
He made me feel comfortable and always had a good story to tell. Fran, May God bless your heart and soul and mind. See you soon.
