Robert “Bob” Weiss, a devoted family man, accomplished engineer, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, at the age of 98.
Born on November 27, 1927, in the Bronx, New York, Bob demonstrated courage and commitment from a young age. With his father’s permission, he enlisted in the United States Navy before his 18th birthday and served his country during World War II.
In 1949, he married the love of his life, Adele “Chickie” Rutkowsky. Together they built a strong and loving family until her passing in 1994.
He is survived by three of his children: Richie Weiss; Billy Weiss (Danielle Daoust); and Chris Winberry (Bob Winberry). He was a cherished grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of ten, and his love and steady presence shaped generations of his family. Bob was predeceased by his beloved eldest son, Tom Weiss (Doreen).
Later in life, Bob found companionship and joy in a loving relationship with Jane Botta, which brought him great happiness in his later years.
Bob enjoyed a distinguished career as an engineer. He began his work with Gibbs & Cox in New York City before continuing at Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, Long Island. Among many notable contributions, he was proud to have worked on the Lunar Module alongside fellow Grumman engineers—an achievement that connected him to one of the most historic accomplishments in human exploration.
A lifelong lover of the water, Bob was an avid boater and swimmer who found peace and joy by the shore. He was also a dedicated and active member of the Long Island Speed Skating Association, continuing to skate well into his eighties—a testament to his vitality and spirit. He was also artistically gifted, a talent he carried with him throughout his life.
Bob lived a long, full, and meaningful life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, 125 W Old Country Road, Hicksville, NY 11801, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm & 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
A Prayer Service will be held at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 8:00 pm.
