Stephen was born on September 21, 1970, to Francis and Dianne Leahy, who predeceased him. He grew up in Levittown, New York, alongside his siblings, Michael and Susan, attending Holy Family Elementary School and Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville.
Throughout his life, Stephen made an abundance of close, lifelong friends who became like family to him and remained by his side over the years and until the very end. He later raised his family in East Meadow, where he became the proud father of his two daughters, Danielle Leahy and Shannon Leahy. Being a father was Stephen's greatest joy in life, and his relationship with his girls was truly special. The love and bond they shared went beyond words and will remain with them forever.
Stephen was a man who found joy in the simple things in life. He loved sports, music, playing cards, family gatherings, and spending time in Patchogue on John's boat. He was quick to laugh, and most who knew Stephen would say that he always had a big smile on his face. His infectious smile, contagious laugh, warm personality, and ability to make those around him feel at home will never be forgotten.
Stephen fought bravely and courageously for 14 months against this horrible disease that took him far too soon. Through his battle, he showed incredible strength and determination, surrounded by the people he loved most.
Stephen is survived by his beloved daughters, Danielle Leahy and Shannon Leahy; his siblings, Michael and Christina Leahy and Susan and Christopher Abbott; his nieces, Megan, Samantha, & Emma, and nephews Brian, Nick, Thomas & Madison; and the many lifelong friends who were like family to him.
He will forever be remembered as a loving son, brother, father, uncle, and friend. His love for his family, his friendships, his laughter, and his unforgettable smile touched countless lives. Stephen's memory will live on in all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
