Vincent Robert Columbus Fiandola passed away in West Babylon, New York on 10/28/2023 from natural causes and lived to the ripe age of 98. He resided at The Bristal of West Babylon where he also had 24 hour care w/ aids Rosalie, Marcel, Natasha, Arlene, Ruth, Helena and Casandra. They were his extended family and they were very attentive to his care around the clock throughout the years.
Vincent was born on Fulton Street in Brooklyn, New York in 1925. As a young boy growing up he loved spending time in Brooklyn, Manhattan and East New York working from a very young age as a bell hop and also spent a lot of time w/ an extended family. His dad Dominic worked at the time supporting his family at the Daily News. His mom passed away at a very young age and he had to go out and help to support his sister Elizabeth (Lizzie). Vincent graduated from Haaren High School in Manhattan, New York in 1942. In 1944 he became a Punch Press Operator on metal plates for a belt company, Fonda Corporation on 2nd Ave in NY.
Vincent was than drafted from Ft Dix, NJ and served in the Army during World War II in 1944 at the Battle of the Bulge in the European Theater. He was a Rifleman during this time. He was honorably discharged due to multiple injuries and received a Theater Ribbon for European African Middle Eastern along with 2 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart GO#2 HQ 53rd FH7 in February of 1945 along with a Good Conduct Ribbon in March 1945.
Upon his return to the US after recovery from the hospital he married the love of his life Clara DeRosa. She stood by him during the war and waited for him to return where they were than married at St Pascal Baylon Church in St Albans, New York. He later worked a lifelong career with a truck route for The Daily News and delivered newspapers from Nassau to Suffolk County nightly. His hobbies were love of cars keeping them waxed and gleaming and buying and selling homes w/real estate on the side. Vincent was very proud to serve in the US Army and has been a member of the American Legion throughout his lifetime.
Vincent Fiandola is predeceased by his wife Clara “Filomena” Fiandola nee DeRosa. He is survived by 1 daughter Barbara Ann Gaynor and Grandson Christian Gaynor, Ocala Florida. Two Sons, Dennis Fiandola w spouse Lisa Fiandola nee Pugliesi, Naples Florida, Gregory Fiandola w spouse Janet Fiandola nee Priebe, Brightwaters NY.
He is also predeceased by Father Dominic Fiandola and Mother Laura “Dora” Fiandola nee Fountain, Brooklyn New York. Sister Elizabeth Hartwick nee Fiandola and Neice Corrine Rogers nee Hartwick, Cairo NY. Son in Law Robert Gaynor and Grandson Keith Gaynor, Ocala Florida.
A visitation for Vincent will be held Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, 125 Old Country Rd, Hicksville, New York 11801, followed by a visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
