Vinod Kumar Bali (October 1, 1950 - August 31, 2019) Beloved husband and father

Vinod Kumar Bali, 68, of Westbury, New York passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Nassau University Medical Center.

Born on October 1, 1950 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India, to Prem Kumari Chibber and Amar Nath Bali, Vinod was a talented artist and musician. Vinod was 4-years-old when his father, a Captain in the Indian Army, passed away. As the baby of the family, his childhood was surrounded by his mother, grandmother (nani), sister Kanta Dutta, and brothers Shiv Kumar Bali, Yash Pal Bali and Ashwani Kumar Bali.

Vinod was a student of St. Columbus High School in Delhi. He Graduated from Hindu College, Delhi University, with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature. He was a brilliant student and was known as an intellectual and philosopher. He grew up listening to Elvis, Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Beatles, The Animals, Lou Rawls, and James Brown, and classical indian music, among others.

His interest in music and the arts drove him to be a well-known musician and a commercial artist in India. He was generally surrounded by beautiful models, but his heart was attracted towards one young college student named Anita Porter. Slowly, Vinod and Anita fell in love and decided to spend their lives together. In 1982, he moved to New York and on June 4, 1983, Vinod married Anita in Arlington, Virginia. Vinod was a wonderful husband who loved his wife Anita unconditionally and always helped her in daily household chores. Anita always felt protected and loved by Vinod. On October 13, 1990, their lives took an amazing turn with the birth of their son, Aakaash. A devoted father, Vinod poured his life into raising his son with endless love and spent his whole life taking care of Aakaash and nurturing his artistic spirit.

Vinod was the favorite son-in-law of his beloved mother-in-law, Nancy Porter, and their bond was indescribable. Vinod was known by his friends and family for his love for music, painting, beautiful handwriting, kind heart, contagious smile, and compassion towards all those who crossed his path. He loved spending the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with Kanta, Sandeep, Madhu, and their children, Mayah and Shyam.

With the support of his family, Vinod fought a hard battle against Cancer, COPD, Emphysema, and Asthma. After defeating cancer he found solace in social media where he was very active. His cats, Mittens and Oliver, and his dog, Nova, were his best friends with whom he spent most of his time throughout the day. His favorite Indian food was pani poori, sarson ka saag & makki ki roti, saag paneer, aloo gobhi, goat curry and idly/dosa/sambar. He enjoyed having meals at Denny’s, Fontana and Tangra Masala.

Vinod was preceded in death by his mother Prem Kumari Chibber, father, Amar Nath Bali, and brothers Shiv Kumar Bali and Ashwani Kumar Bali.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Anita, dear son Aakaash, Salimah Khoja, Lauren Krampen and Aaqil Khoja (whom he considered his own children), and pets Mittens, Oliver, and Nova.

He also leaves behind Kanta Dutta (sister), Yash Bali (brother), Susan Bali (sister-in-law), Charles & Vanita Murray, Sunil & Trina Porter, Stephen & Promilla Massey (brothers & sisters in-law), Sandeep Dutta, Anand Bali, Amit Bali, Aseem Chaudry, Joel Porter (nephews), Tara Tibbs, Megan Murray, Preeti Bali and Neeti Bali (nieces).
