Viola Gentile, age 95, of Bethpage, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, a family who loved her dearly, and a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Viola was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Gentile, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories. She was a devoted and loving mother to Camille Doncer and James Chiarello, and beloved mother in law to the late Michael Doncer, an adored grandmother to Jennifer, Christopher (Christina), and four other loving grandchildren, and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren. Her family was an important part of her life, and the love she shared across generations will continue to be treasured for years to come.
Viola had a wonderful way of enjoying life and finding happiness in the simple pleasures of everyday living. She loved shopping, crocheting, baking, and cooking, and she took great pleasure in preparing delicious meals for the people she loved. Her cheesecake and lasagna were family favorites, made with care and a special touch that made them unforgettable. For Viola, food was more than just a meal; it was a way to bring people together, share a little happiness, and create memories around the table. She also enjoyed going out to restaurants and trying different places, always ready to enjoy a good meal and a change of scenery.
Viola also had a fun-loving side and certainly knew how to enjoy herself! She loved getting away to Atlantic City or Yonkers to try her luck at the casinos and play her favorite games. When a trip wasn't possible, she was just as happy buying lottery tickets and scratch-offs, always hoping for that exciting winning moment. These little adventures brought her enjoyment and excitement, reflecting her spirited personality and her desire to make the most of life. Viola knew how to have a good time, and those who knew her will fondly remember this playful and lively part of who she was.
At 95 years of age, Viola leaves behind a lifetime of stories, experiences, traditions, and memories that her family will hold close to their hearts. Though she is no longer physically present, the love she gave, the meals she prepared, the laughter she shared, and the special moments spent together will never be forgotten. Her memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched. The traditions she passed down and the memories created in her presence will continue to connect her family to her for generations to come.
While saying goodbye to someone so dearly loved is never easy, there is comfort in remembering the life Viola lived, the family she helped build, and the many ways she brought joy to those around her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of her family.
A memorial Mass celebrating Viola's life will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church in Hicksville, New York. The burial of her ashes will immediately follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, New York. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Viola's life and keeping her memory alive.
May Viola's memory be eternal. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved Raymond, and may the love she shared continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be remembered always with love, gratitude, and affection.
