Born on January 19, 1933, in South Korea, Young Sup was the eldest of 5 children.
Young Sup Ko was a senior elder at Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Hicksville, NY. He prioritized serving God, was loyal to the church, maintained close relationships with church members, and always worshipped God with all his heart and soul.
A proud Navy veteran, he fought for his country in the Korean War and helped with wartime efforts to support the US Navy before he became the only sibling to immigrate to the United States at the age of 53. He was an avid member of the NY chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association and served as Director in most recent years.
While he was reserved with words, he was never shy about sharing his love with his family and close confidantes. Whip-smart and with a wicked memory, Young Sup had a penchant for history, a love of the Yankees, and all things maritime.
Young Sup is survived by his wife, Bong Soon Ko; three children, Edward (Mary) Ko, of Woodbury, NY, Carlos Ko, of Honolulu, HI, and Jung Hee (Kyung Suk) Yi, of Columbia, SC; sister, Jung Soon Ko, of Suwon, South Korea; five grandchildren, Jessica (Cody Penfold) Yi-Penfold, of Atlanta, GA, Vincent Yi, of Albany, GA, Jamie Yi, of Columbia, SC, Philip Ko, of Woodbury, NY and John Ko, of Woodbury, NY; one great-grandchild, Serafina Penfold.
