A private interment will be held at the columbarium of First Presbyterian Church, High Point followed by a Memorial Service at River Landing at 2:00 PM Friday, June 29, 2018.
Alice was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 14,1924, the daughter of Charles M. and Minnie C. Holland. In the mid-70’s she lived in High Point, the location of her husband's employment with Reliance Universal Inc., and with his transfer, moved to Louisville, KY, where they resided for 28 years. They returned to High Point in 2003, as retirees, to live at River Landing, and re-joined First Presbyterian Church. While in Louisville Alice was an active member in PEO, and with her return to North Carolina she became a Charter Member of Chapter CF of Greensboro.
The daughter of a Presbyterian Elder, she was born into the church and served it all her life. She served as a Deacon and Ruling Elder multiple times, was active in the Women's Organizations, and served twice as President of Presbyterian Women. She also added a lovely soprano voice to the choir for many years, singing solos and duets, as well as participation with other musical groups. Ever active in volunteerism, she served as a Hospital Gray Lady, a member of the Louisville Orchestra Association, and was a dedicated tennis player.
She attended public schools, and graduated from Pierce College, in Philadelphia. During WWII, she was Office Manager of a Defense Company that was awarded the coveted ARMY/NAVY E for EXCELLENCE IN SUPPORT OF THE WAR EFFORT. Her hours were long and hard, but she was proud of her contribution. She discontinued employment after the birth of her first child in 1949. With a bounty of common sense, and considerable insight into matters of human nature, she advised and supported her husband throughout his career. They had a partnership in life.
Alice was a people person. With her warmth she made friends easily and worked faithfully in retaining these relationships. Throughout her Card ministry, letter writing and phone calls, she made hundreds of contacts annually with those friends she treasured. She will be missed by many.
Alice and Charles met and fell in love in 1940, but because of his Navy and education involvements, were unable to marry until six years later, and then went on to celebrate 72 years of happy marriage together.
She is survived by her husband, Charles J. Fisher; two sons, Charles J. Jr. and his wife Lynette of Saluda, NC, and Matthew C. and his wife Diane of Indian Trail, NC; and two grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth of Nashville, TN, and Abby Michelle Suarro and her husband Ryan of Monroe, NC.
The family requests that in-lieu-of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Charles and Alice Fisher Education Endowment at Presbyterian Homes Foundation, Inc., 2109 Sandy Ridge Rd, Colfax, NC 27235.
