

She was born to the late Joe H. Harper and Sue Mann Harper on April 28, 1928 in High Point, NC. She graduated from Jones Business College and also earned her Realtors License. She was married to the late James “Shorty” Halcomb Matthews. In addition to her parents and her husband , she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Wade, Clyde and Donald “Butcher” Harper. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 87.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Christine “Christy” Matthews of Statesville, NC and a special niece, Donna Sue Harper of the home. Cousin, William “Bill” Harper and wife Boots of Melbourne, Florida along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Christine was an astute business women, devoted mother and a friend to all that knew her. She is the Owner and Operator of Matthews Amusements, a company founded by her late husband in the early 50’s. She also worked for BC Fowler, Century 21 as a Realtor. She worked tirelessly for the Epilepsy Foundation and was a devoted mother to her special needs child, Christy. Her favorite hobbies included cooking, entertaining, traveling and most of all dancing. She spent a lot of time at her lake house and always offered it to family and friends for enjoyment. She taught her family the benefits of working hard with determination and drive. She enjoyed many daily excursions with her niece, Donna, who has always been by her side for assistance and love. She was a very special lady who touched the lives of everyone she met by sharing her smile and advice.
Visitation will be 7 – 9 on Friday, September 9th at Sechrest Chapel on East Lexington Avenue, High Point. Entombment in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private.
