Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 21, at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel, 1301 Lexington Avenue with Reverend Vincent Smith officiating.
Mr. Williams was born on July 3, 1921 in Robbins North Carolina to the late Raleigh Noah and Mary Rutledge Williams. Cliff was a loving and proud husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather to his wife Pat, six children; daughter Pamela Williams Crist and her husband Alexander of Greensboro, son Clifton Baxter Williams II and his wife Vicki of Charlotte, daughter Judith Marie Williams of Greensboro, daughter Dorothy Williams Goodson and her husband Mark of New Hill, son Theodore Hugh Williams of Atlanta and son Patrick MacMillan Williams and wife Sandy of Trinity, seven grandchildren Alison Crist Tennent and husband Edward of Charlotte, Katie Williams Ervin and husband Jonathan of Charlotte, Gregory Cavan Williams and wife Jennifer of Charlotte, Hannah Marie Goodson, Samantha Rose Goodson both of New Hill, MacMillan Stevenson Williams and Smith Baxter Williams both of High Point, and five great grandchildren Avery Marie Ervin, Isabella Marie Tennent, Charles Edward Ervin, Edward Smith Tennent VI and John Baxter Williams all of Charlotte.
In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Elizabeth Gleason of Charlottesville, Virginia and brother Rodger Williams of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and is survived by a brother Colonel Raleigh Noah Williams of San Antonio.
Cliff was a simple and quiet man. He was an avid reader, walker, gardener and a die hard Carolina fan who wore his Carolina cap every day in the hospital and still had it on when he was taken. He enjoyed recalling his navy days serving in both theaters, the Atlantic and Pacific in WWII. Most of his life was dedicated to working at Burlington Industries and helping his wife raise his six children. Even though he was never baptized Catholic Cliff considered himself, because of his wife's longtime membership at Immaculate Heart of Mary, a parishioner once removed. Cliff & Pat were one of the first marriages and founding members of Immaculate Heart of Mary with Cliff volunteering to help build the church on Montlieu Avenue in High Point. Internment will be in the Columbarium at Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The family wishes to thank Cliff's doctors, nurses and staff at HPRH who showed so many kindnesses. The family will be receiving guests and friends after the service at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel at the home of daughter, Pamela Williams Crist in Greensboro.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Clifton may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church 605 Barbee Avenue, High Point, NC 27265.
