

Born September 14, 1953 in Gary, Indiana, Dan was a son of the late Daniel Warren and Margaret Valyocsik Mellinger. While growing up in Merrillville, Indiana, he attended local schools and graduated from Merrillville High School. He earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University in 1979 and soon after joined the practice of Dr. Thomas McNeill at Northwood Animal Hospital in High Point.
Upon Dr. McNeill’s retirement, Dan purchased the business and continued practicing veterinary medicine until November 2012 when he retired due to his health. Since 1979, he had been an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder and was an adult leader of the Boy Scouts Troop 20. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of High Point and was awarded both the George F. Hixson Fellowship and a lifetime membership. He was also a member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
On June 18, 1977, he married the former Deborah (Debbie) Pecsok who survives of the home. Also surviving are his daughter, Corie Mellinger Gallemore and her husband John Douglas of Chicago, Illinois; a son Daniel Warren Mellinger, III and his wife Anna of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Lynn Mellinger Schaefer and her husband Jim of Geneseo, Illinois, Cathy Mellinger Mee of Merrillville, Indiana, Lorie Mellinger Triplett and her husband Ira of Merrillville, Indiana; three brothers, Brett Mellinger and his wife Maria of New York, New York, Rand Mellinger and his wife Cathy of Noblesville, Indiana, Scott Mellinger of Valparaiso, Indiana; and one grand-daughter, Claire Danielle Gallemore.
Other survivors are his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Al and Shirley Starr of Naples, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Jim Pecsok and his wife Barbara of Chesapeake, Virginia and Tom Pecsok and his wife Ella of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Dan’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of High Point with the Reverend Dr. Ken Broman-Fulks officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday (tonight) at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point. The family will also receive friends after the memorial service in the Family Life Center of First Presbyterian Church.
