Donald Robert Isom, 81 of Colfax, entered into rest on March 14, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born on February 22, 1932 in Guilford County to the late John Robert Isom and Cora King.
Donald joined the United States Army as a member of the military police and he completed his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina . He served in the Korean conflict, as well as serving in Germany and at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He met the love of his life Mildred Sharpe, whom he married in 1957.
Donald was the owner of Isom Upholstery. He enjoyed working on tractors, lawn mowers and cars. He also loved the outdoors and spent much of his time outside.
Donald is preceded in death by his sister Darlene Idol.
Donald is survived by his spouse, Mildred. His beloved nieces and nephews; Ron and Brenda Idol, Tony and Brenda Idol, Sherri and Ric Furr, Scott and Tina Zito, Gary, John and Tim Sharpe, Patti and Chuck Purgason, Andy Kelly, Davy Sharpe and Karen Moore, Mark and Daniel Cain and all their families. Donald is also survived by his brother - in- law, David Sharpe and wife Laverne, his sisters-in-law ; Sara Sharpe, Dora Purgason, Betty McMillan, Violet Cain and many other family members, friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 17 from 10am until 11:30am at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Ave. in High Point. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 17 at 2pm at Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors.
