Floyd “Pops” Griffin Allen, 81, passed away July 17, 2026. Pops was born March 13, 1945, in Alamance County to the late Arthur Floyd and Alice Mozelle Griffin Allen. He was a resident of Lexington, North Carolina.
Pops served in the Army National Guard from 1968 to 1974. In his younger years, he helped his father farm, later building a life through hard work as a brick mason, and in his latter years driving a truck until 2018. Across every season of his working life, Pops carried himself with steady dedication and a generous spirit—someone who showed love not only in words, but in the daily willingness to do what needed to be done.
In 1969, Pops married the love of his life, Mary Ann Lance, and together they shared a loving 57 years of marriage, raising their daughter Angie and their son Andy. He was a loving, kind-hearted man whose devotion to family was unmistakable—especially in the joy he took in the kids, always ready to tease, laugh, and make the moment lighter.
Pops enjoyed racing RC cars with Andy, and he never needed much more than a chance to be with friends and family and talk. He liked NASCAR and watching Gunsmoke, and he was known for the warmth he brought to everyday conversations—friendly, humorous, and easy to be around.
He was very active with the METS group and his Sunday school class at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church. He also liked to spend time at Daniel's Tire, where conversation and companionship came naturally to him. Pops never met a stranger; his selfless nature and quiet kindness were evident in the way he listened, the way he welcomed others, and the way he would give you the shirt off of his back. A great storyteller and a great listener, he leaves behind a legacy of love and simple goodness that will be remembered with gratitude.
Preceding Pops in death are his parents; his brother Lynn Allen; his sister Pat Morgan; and his sister-in-law Nancy Allen.
Surviving to cherish Pops’s memories are his loving wife, Mary Ann Allen; his daughter, Angie Allen; his son, Andy (Kori) Allen; three grandchildren, Scott Evans, Matthew Allen, and Lexi Book; his brother, Van (Don) Allen; his sister, Pam (Charlie) Causey; his brother-in-law, Steve Morgan; and a host of nieces, nephews, and those who loved him. Pops was a great son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, and will be greatly missed.
