

Mr. Best was born in Westfield, Mass, on October 12, 1933 to Thomas Charles and Madeline May Best. He graduated from Westfield State College and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the U S Tarawa Air Craft Carrier from 1950 -1954. As a civilian, Mr. Best was a rehabilitation counselor for the Dept. of the Navy until his retirement on October 12, 1996. Mr. Best was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Bishop Hafey Council # 4507 of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Irene Todd and two brothers, Thomas and Ronald Best.
Surviving are his wife Irene May Nitkowski Best of the home and one son; Timothy Frances Best and wife Joyce Bacik of High Point. There are two grandchildren, Craig Chapman and Alexander Best and one great grandchild, Aubrey Mae Chapman.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Friday, January 4th at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 3rd at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point from 7:00 pm until 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please offer memorials to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
