Gary Arlie Hughes

Gary Arlie Hughes, age 72, passed peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, with his family by his side.

Gary was born in Davidson County, November 14, 1952, a son of the late Arlie Hughes and Thelma Viola James Hughes. He was a truck driver his entire life, finally retiring just months before his passing. Gary enjoyed fishing at the lake with his wife, Linda, family and friends. He loved a good cup of coffee! Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Linda Spoon Hughes; a brother, Darrell Hughes; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Taylor Burns and Hayley Marie Hughes.

Surviving are two daughters, Angie Watts (Rodney) and Angela Herndon (Jason); a son, Gary Lee Hughes; four brothers, Ronald Dale, Donald Eugene, Harold Lee and Alan Craig Hughes; nine grandchildren, Krystal Loy, Angel Gerringer, Marcus MacKeraghan, Garrett Hughes, Emily Sellers, Madison Herndon, Amanda Hall, Benjamin Hughes, and Summer Watts; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 2 p.m. by Terry Budwine. The family will receive friends at Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home, 976 Phillips Ave., High Point, NC on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
