On Sunday – January 25th Gladys Ann Clinard Black, age 92, of High Point, NC, went home to Jesus after a long and blessed life. Gladys was born in High Point to Roy Sharpe and Sadie Snider Clinard on February 8, 1933.
Gladys was married in 1951 to Richard K. Black, a marriage that lasted for 28 years, until Richard’s passing in 1979. Gladys had one sibling, a brother, Kay Clinard, who recently passed away in December 2025 after a long illness. His wife, Nancy Clinard, still survives in Raleigh, NC. They have two married children, Kathy (Seattle, Washington) and Ken (Raleigh, NC). Gladys was a member of First Baptist Church of High Point for many years. She loved her church members, and especially her Keystone Sunday School Class. Gladys served as a deacon for her church from 1998-2000. During the last years of her life, Gladys suffered with vision and hearing issues, therefore she relied on others for help. She greatly appreciated the help from church members and family. During her last years, she and her cousin grew close as Mary Ann Boone became her transportation, grocery buyer, caregiver and monitor of her finances. The family extends a big thank you to any who helped Gladys through the years.
On Tuesday, February 3 at 11am, a memorial service to honor the life of Gladys Black will be held in the Chapel of Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home, 976 Phillips Ave., High Point, NC 27262. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, NC.
