High Point- Mr. H. Wayne Luquer, Sr., 89, died May 6, 2018, at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. He was born May 24, 1928, to Herbert Luquer, Sr., and Annie Garrett Luquer. He was married to Rebecca Elliott, who survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert Luquer, Jr. and Joseph Darrell Luquer; and sisters, Ruby Luquer Reynolds, Lois and Louise Luquer.
Wayne was employed as an accountant/office manager with Highland Container Corporation for 18 years. He joined Paramount Paper Corporation in Maxton, NC, which later became the Packaging Division of Leggett and Platt. He worked as comptroller for the packaging division of Leggett and Platt for 10 years until the packaging division was purchased by U.S. Packaging, where he remained as comptroller until retirement. He was a member of the Institute of Management Accountants for 50 years.
Wayne coached a Pony League team for the Greensboro district for several years and taught first aid and civil defense for the American Red Cross. He was an avid tennis player, and enjoyed the game well into his eighties. Most of all he enjoyed camping with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and the Fortney/Miller Sunday School Class and was a member of the chancel choir for many years.
He is survived by daughter, Janice Clewis (Dr. Tommy Clewis); sons, Harold “Luke” Luquer (Kelly) and Lloyd Luquer (Rose); grandsons, Eric Luquer, Sr. Master Sgt. Anthony Luquer, Dr. Jason Clewis, Brandon Clewis and Chris Luquer; and great-grandchildren, Summer, Kandon, Jenna, Lauren, Alyssa and Isabella, Cade, Kaleb and Wyatt.
In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be directed to the Jamestown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 339, Jamestown, NC 27282; or to Hospice of Randolph County at 416 Vision Dr. Asheboro NC 27203.
A graveside service is planned for at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Guilford Memorial Park. Visitation will follow immediately after the service at the graveside.
