Mrs. Cox was born April 16, 1918 to Abner H. Holton, Sr. and Bertye McClure Holton. She was a graduate of High Point High School and High Point College. She was retired from the High Point Employment Security Commission. She was an active member of Covenant Church United Methodist where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Methodist Women and visited the shut-ins until her health prevented it.
She also served on the Mobile Meals board for many years.
In 1940 she married Fred J. Cox, Jr. who preceded her in death as well as two sisters, Mary Holton Bernard, and Nell Holton Hedrick, and two sons-in-law, Phillip Gurganus and Ron Hundley. She is survived by three daughters, Marsha C. Gurganus, Julia C. Hundley, and Janet C. Kimball and her husband Johnny. Five grandchildren, Alison H. Boswell and husband, Brett, Chris Hundley and wife Beth, Keith Hundley, Edmond Gurganus, and Kevin Gurganus. Seven great grandchildren, Erica and Aniston Boswell, Drew, Nathan, and Jacob Hundley, Grady Gurganus, and Addison Gurganus.
Also, surviving are a brother A. Homer Holton, Jr. and a brother-in-law, Leon Bernard.
A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery by the Reverend Michelle Foster. The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Ave Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
