Jack was born in Ft. Myers, FL. July 15, 1936, a son of the late Alyce Morgan Swinney and Carroll Eglin Swinney. At age 6 months, he was voted the prettiest baby in Ft. Myers. Jack's mother was the social secretary to Mrs. Thomas A. Edison, who wintered there for many years with her husband, Thomas A. Edison. Jack received a crocheted pillow and two blankets from Mrs. Edison.
Jack was born with Cerebral Palsy, but lived a long and interesting life. He lived in High Point most of his adult life and was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years, not missing many Sundays at church with his parents.
In 2010, Jack moved to Durham to be near his sister, Suzanne.
Jack is survived by his sister, Suzanne Hart and two cousins, Nina Ruth Wright and Dr. Barry Wright.
A graveside service will be held Friday, April 3, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Jeff Patterson. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Dr., High Point, NC 27262. Sechrest Funeral Service is serving the Swinney family.
