James was born February 1, 1931 in Surry County, a son to the late Novella and Morris Haymore. He had retired as a truck driver from Valspar and was one of the founders of the Horneytown Fire and Rescue in 1964. While on the fire department, he served as Captain and Assistant Fire Chief. James farmed and worked some of the modified race teams. He also enjoyed showing horses with his family. Twenty years ago, he and his sons started Haymore Lawn Service and continued working until he suffered a stroke. James was an avid fan of NASCAR, Monday night wrestling, and girls softball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both wives, Doris Haymore and Gladys Haymore; daughter, Cindy Haymore; and son, Jeff Haymore.
Surviving are his daughter, Jimmi Williams and husband Ken of Greensboro; sons, Bruce Haymore and wife Debbie of Jamestown and James Haymore, Jr. of Archdale; three grandchildren, April Williams of Greensboro, Marie Welch and husband Mark of High Point, and Zachary Williams and wife Jennifer of Delaware; two great grandchildren, Nathan and Andrew Williams of Delaware; a special brother, Robert Haymore of Walkertown; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special best friend, his pug, “Babygirl”.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday, June 8 in the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue with Rev. Michael Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Thursday, June 7 at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue.
