Jane (Tyson) Hunt

November 18, 1925February 22, 2019

High Point - Jane Tyson Hunt, of River Landing, passed away on February 22, 2019, after a short period of declining health.

Jane was born on November 18, 1925, in Carthage, NC, to Ruth Harriss Tyson and Lucien Person Tyson and was educated in the local schools. She graduated from Woman’s College (now UNC-G) and moved to High Point where she taught kindergarten and first grade students at Ray Street School. She met and married Joseph Graham Hunt on December 19, 1948. Together they raised two daughters. Jane greatly enjoyed being a wife and homemaker. She took an active role in her family’s activities and volunteered at church, schools and in the community. She was a loving and supportive wife to her husband. Jane loved children and hearing the happy sounds of children at play, especially those who grew up on Edgedale Drive. Her home was always open to them. It is a testament to her caring and nurturing nature that those same children fondly refer to her as “Mama Hunt”. Jane had a great sense of humor, loved dogs and eating a “loaded” hotdog from The Dog House. Jane was an excellent cook and talented seamstress. She excelled at being a good friend and neighbor. Jane encouraged her children and their friends in all of their activities and emphasized good manners and correct grammar. Her close relationship with her granddaughter, Maggie, brought particular joy to both of their lives.

Jane was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed an active membership there until it became too difficult to attend services in person.

Jane was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Graham Hunt, and her parents. She is survived by her loving daughters Jane Hunt Worley and husband Samuel of Raleigh; Joanna Hunt Davis and husband Joseph of Wilmington; granddaughter Margaret Tyson Davis of Wilmington; her sister Ruth Harriss Tyson of Southern Pines; special niece Betsy Hunt of High Point and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends after the service in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 918 North Main St., High Point, NC 27262, or a charity of one’s choice.

Dear Joanna and Jane
I am so sorry to hear about your mom's passing. I have very fond memories of your mom and the years we played back and forth. Fun beach trip and spending the nights. She was sure a southern lady. My best to you all.

Dear Jane and Joanna, I am so glad I was able to visit with Jane last Sat. She recognized me and we talked about lots of things. When I told her that I had told some friends that I was going to HP to visit my kindergarten teacher she actually laughed! I have so many good memories of Jane - from kindergarten to Badin Lake to being such a wonderful friend of the family etc. She was a very special LADY and meant a lot to my family. She will be missed! You all are in my prayers.
