Jean Warwick Nadeau, 105, died at home on September 16, 2024. She was a native of Scotland County, NC, born April 25, 1919 to the late Joe Green and Jeanie Harris Warwick. She was both an art and reading teacher for Maxton Schools for 11 years and previously taught several years in Iowa. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurinburg for 37 years, the Lioness Club, DAR, and Scotland County Extension Homemakers where she served as district president. Upon retiring from teaching, she taught in the GED program at LOF in Laurinburg. She designed the Scotland County Flag and was recognized for her volunteer work as a recipient of the NC Governor’s Award. In 2006 she sold her family home place north of Laurinburg to move in with her daughter in High Point, NC, where she lived for the next 18 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she belonged to the Young at Heart Club. She was also a member of High Point Newcomers.
Jean enjoyed sketching, crafts, knitting, sewing, reading and traveling with her daughters, planning at least one trip together each year. She also enjoyed visits from family and friends, and especially from her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her two daughters, Andrea N. Brown of High Point and Marianne N. Stoddard (Richard) of Greenville, SC; nine grandchildren, Charles Brown (Laura), Laura Albright (Jim), Marianne King (Chris), Stephen Brown, Michael Brown (Whitney), Andrea Mendenhall (Russell), Deanne Rogers (Tim Glotch), Daniel Rogers (Mary) and Joseph Stoddard. She is also survived by eighteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death in 1981 by her husband, Dr. Andre Nadeau, former professor at Pembroke University. They met and graduated from Appalachian State and were married in Lenoir, NC on May 1941. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Joe R. Warwick, Sr. of Laurinburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday, September 20th at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson St., High Point, NC 27265. The family will receive friends at 10 am in the Church narthex with a light luncheon immediately following the mass in the fellowship hall.
A graveside service will be held at the old Hillside Cemetery at 426 Hillside Ave, Laurinburg at 3:00 pm on the same day.
Memorials would be welcome to Hospice of the Piedmont, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or any Veteran Organization.
