Major Jerry Thomas Rich Ret.

Major Rich was born in Guilford County on April 22, 1935 to Lester Howard and Bertha Lee Worrell Rich. He entered the High Police Department on March 21, 1960 and while serving he attended Davidson County Community College, Guilford Technical Community College, Guilford College and the FBI Academy. He retired on February 1, 1989 with the rank of Major. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to High Rock Lake where he enjoyed boating and fishing until moving back to High Point in 2000. Major Rich was a member of Montlieu Avenue United Methodist Church. On December 19, 1953 he married the former Lela Sue Ridge, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are his daughters; Dawn Hazelwood and husband Gary and Debbie Shelton and husband Lynn, all of High Point. There are three grandchildren; Johnny Shelton and Jay Hazelwood, both of High Point and Gary Hazelwood and wife Kendra of Richmond, Texas. Mr. Rich has one sister, Barbara Leach of Thomasville.

Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Sechrest Funeral Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue with the Reverend Hagan McClellan officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
