Kat was born in Swain County, NC June 18, 1927, a daughter of the late Robert and Mintie Ammons Stiles. She moved to High Point at a young age and met and married her husband of fifty-four years, Jay Cheves. Kat enjoyed a long career in the food service industry, having worked at the Plantation Supper Club and retiring from Holiday Inn Four Seasons, serving as banquet manager. She enjoyed camping with her friends and family as a member of the High Point Sundowner's Camping Club.
Kat lived life to the fullest and conquered her bucket list during her eightieth year to include skydiving, zip lining in Belize, parasailing and a hot air balloon ride. She spent many happy years at Ocean Isle Beach where she made many special friends and was a member of the Shallotte Presbyterian Church. Kat mowed fourteen yards for her neighbors well into her eighty's! Her passion was to collect food for the pantry in Shallotte.
Kat loved to entertain all her family and friends. Her house was always the spot where folks would gather. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay in 2001, six siblings, and son in law, Bobby Craven.
Surviving are three daughters, Donna McLauchlin (Mike), Laura Craven and Lisa Rumph (Kenny); two sons, Ron Cheves (Julie) and Robert Cheves (Flor); ten Grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery by Rev. John Causey. The family will receive friends at Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home, 976 Phillips Ave., High Point Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Brunswick County Family Assistance, PO Box 1551, Shallotte, NC 28459. There will be a memorial service at Shallotte Presbyterian Church on August 19, 2021 at 2 p.m..

Kat loved her family tremendously and told them as often as she could. Her passing completes the final check on her bucket list and she has moved on to bigger and better adventures.
