

She was 81 years of age and was a native and lifelong resident of High Point. She was born June 11, 1929 to Wayne and Mattie Swaim. That’s correct, she was a Swaim, both before and after she married her husband John on October 29, 1949. They were married for 58 years and were still holding hands when John passed away in 2007.
“Kat” as some of her friends caller her was multi-talented. When her youngest started school, she began working in the Oak View Elementary Cafeteria. Later, she managed the cafeteria at Jamestown Elementary and then the cafeteria at Jamestown Junior High. In addition, to her cooking skills, she gardened, made most of her own clothes as well as her children’s, wove baskets and always had some decorative project going on.
She is survived by her three children, Mike Swaim of Lugoff, SC, John Swaim, Jr. of High Point, Barbara Davis and her husband Mike of Sumter, SC; two grandchildren, Micara Baker of Bishopville, SC and Amber Wyckoff currently living in Spain. In addition, she has four great grandchildren, Savannah Culp and Clara Baker, Deven and Serenity Wyckoff. “Kat” also has one sister, Donna Kuske of Astoria, Oregon.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Spring Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverend Sandra Ireson and Reverend Ardis Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue on Wednesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
