Larry Dean McGhee, 87, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away on March 19, 2026. Born January 4, 1939, in Jamestown, NC, Larry was a son of the late Marvin Addison McGhee and Lelia Weavil McGhee.
A proud patriot, Larry served his country in the United States Coast Guard, a reflection of the steady, devoted spirit that guided his life. He was also a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of High Point, where his presence and commitment were valued and remembered.
Larry embraced life with joy and curiosity. He loved sports and traveling, and he was an avid rock hunter—so much so that one of his finds made its way into The Smithsonian Institution. He also enjoyed woodworking, finding satisfaction in creating something lasting with his own hands.
Larry is survived by his wife, Ginger Shaw McGhee; two sons, Thomas Dean McGhee and Trenton Dale McGhee (Linda); four grandchildren, Taylor McGhee Shaffer (Grant), Ashton McGhee Mitchell (Hunter), Wyatt McGhee, and Lauren McGhee; one brother, Kenneth McGhee (Sandra); one aunt, Olene Mabe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie McGhee.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 512 N Main St, High Point, NC 27260. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.
