Lea Janine Johnson was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to JoAnn Bland and Thomas Brantley Head. She graduated from Pascagoula High School and attended Mississippi State University. Lea met the love of her life when she went to play practice at the Pass Point Little Theater to see her best friend rehearse the female lead part in “The Me Nobody Knows”, by Eubie Blake. It was the male lead who stole Lea’s heart. Lea and Flemming were married in Groton, Connecticut, at the Navy Chapel.
Following Flemming’s service in the United States Nuclear Navy, Lea and Flemming lived in multiple states along the Eastern seaboard. Through their bond and their relationship with Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, they have secured many lifetime relationships. In each location they have found and made lasting friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, and co-workers. Lea, Flemming, and their sons Bradley and Wesley became active members in church in each location that they called home. Lea’s immediate desire was to help others. She served in various capacities in each church. She loved to bake and help her friends shop for clothes and shoes.
Lea’s first impulse was to help others and in doing so she made many lifelong friends. Her helpfulness found many formats and often inspired others to participate as well. Because she ‘never met a stranger’ she brightened the mood of those around her.
Lea sought to encourage those she could not help directly, often by praying for and with them.
Lea homeschooled their sons and proudly wore the “Mom” pin as they each earned the rank of Eagle Scout. She was a homemaker first and later worked part time in banking, sales, and office administration. After their sons left home, Lea worked in the medical field.
Lea was predeceased by her parents, JoAnn and Bob Lindsey; and her father Tom Head.
She is survived by her loving husband, Flemming Johnson; her sons Bradley Johnson and Wesley Johnson, daughter-in-law, Heather Johnson; 5 grandchildren, Ava, Harper, Chambley, Hudson, and Haddon. She is also survived by her sisters and brother-in-law Cherie and Sterling Owen, Pamela Lusicic, and Lisa Lindsey.
A Celebration of Lea's life will be held Thursday March 19, 2026, at 3:15 p.m. at Community Bible Church of High Point, NC, officiated by Pastor Aaron Martin. Family will be receiving friends from 2 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. Burial will be at Salisbury National Cemetery of Salisbury, NC.
