December 24, 1960 – June 17, 2025
Linda Joy Wirig Cecil peacefully passed away on June 17, 2025 following a brave battle with terminal illness. She was 64.
Born on Christmas Eve, 1960 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Linda was the sixth of eight children born to Bessie Carpenter Wirig and Frank Harold Wirig.
She never met a stranger; everyone she talked to became an instant friend.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Linda served in a wide variety of roles and callings that magnified her faith and her love for others. She was a devoted early morning seminary teacher, a long-time youth Sunday school teacher, a deeply-adored Primary music leader, and a ward organist whose playing routinely touched hearts. She was also a legendary Girls’ Camp director. Her enthusiasm and creativity shone brightly through every opportunity she had to serve. Her testimony and her decades of service highlight her unwavering commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
She was an exceptional nurse who provided the utmost care for her patients. She went above and beyond in her education and in all of her career endeavors to ensure a high standard of excellence — and did it all with a spring in her step and a heart full of song; even on days when she may have preferred to be elsewhere. Everyone wanted to work when Linda was working.
Linda loved musicals and was a walking encyclopedia of practically every popular song from her youth and beyond — always ready to break into song or hum a familiar tune. Her love of music was a source of comfort and joy to everyone around her.
She loved the beach dearly and found happiness in gathering there with her children and grandchildren as often as possible. Those moments were among her life’s greatest joys.
She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, Jeffrey Neil Wirig.
Linda is survived by her husband, Randy Cecil, her children: Mike (Andrea) Streeter, Adam (Fanja) Streeter, Mark (Dotty) Streeter, Leah (Phillip) Carper, and Andrew (Anne) Streeter — and her
step-children Kory (Allen) Williford, Casey (Erin) Cecil, Curtis Cecil, John Cecil and Hannah (Brandon) Rice.
Her legacy lives on through her 26 beloved grandchildren: Riley, Emma, Allie, Joseph, Nolan, Olivia, Milo, Charlie, Verena, Austin, Jack, Bruce, River, Charlotte, Hugo, Clara, Rylee, Kaeli, Maverick, Ainsley, Anniston, Alayna, Brayden, Brody, Hunter and Savannah.
She is also survived by her siblings, her extended family, and her many, many, many friends.
She will be cherished and remembered always.
We invite you to join us in honoring Linda’s life this coming Saturday, June 21, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1830 Chestnut Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
