

She was a native of Johnston, County, and a resident of Guilford County since 1969. She was a 1953 graduate of Rex Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse in long term care for many years, later focusing on teaching nursing assistants with Guilford Technical Community College before retiring at age 76.
She was a longtime member of Emerywood Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. On June 19, 1955, she married Bobby M. Brooks and together they raised four children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob on July 30th, 1991, and her brother William Fletcher “Pete” Stancil.
She is survived by: her sister, Mildred Lindsey of Hopewell, Va.; four children: Allen Malcolm Brooks and wife, Debra, from Ooltewah, TN, Nancy Brooks Cummings and husband, Jack, from Raleigh, Karen Brooks Smith and husband, Steve, from Wake Forest, and Terrie Brooks, from High Point; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Alan Murr and wife, Jackie, Jennifer Louise Smith, Mary Beth Russo and husband Brian, Ben Smith and wife, Elizabeth, all from the Raleigh area and Brandi Michelle Haralson and husband Joshua of Kernersville: five great grandchildren: Michael King Murr, Harrison Robert Smith, Hayley Haralson, Mason Haralson and Katie Lynn Haralson; multiple nieces and nephews.
She was a devoted wife, mother, “Grandmommy” and great grandmother. Together with her husband, she laid the foundation for a strong Christian family by living an example of humbleness, gentleness, selflessness, and unwavering faith.
“She is clothed in strength and dignity. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. Her children arise and call her blessed. Many women do noble things but you surpass them all.” Proverbs 31: 26-29.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday in the sanctuary of Emerywood Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Robert U. Ferguson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 pm Tuesday at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Avenue in High Point.
