Marguerite Estelle Freeman Mize, 98, of High Point, passed away Friday, August 25, in her cottage at Pennybyrn, where she and her late husband Conrad Mize had been active residents for over twenty years.
Mrs. Mize was born Marguerite Freeman to the late Ernest B. Freeman, Sr. and the late Grace Lowder Freeman of High Point.
She ran the Junior League Boutique shop in downtown High Point in the 1970s, and used that retail experience to later purchase and run Jamestown Jewelers with her beloved late husband of 38 years, jeweler Conrad Mize. The couple and their business significantly contributed to the revival of downtown Jamestown for two decades offering diamond jewelry and precious gems, premium watches, and silver hollowware, along with in-house jewelry and watch repair. Mrs. Mize retired to a cottage on the grounds of Pennybyrn Estate with her husband after twenty years owning and operating Jamestown Jewelers and the couple then spent a decade traveling through every continent except Antarctica. Mrs. Mize’s favorite destination was Israel with its rich history, followed by Alaska and its untamed beauty. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in High Point.
Preceding Marguerite in death are her husband, Conrad Mize; her parents; and one brother, Ernest B. Freeman, Jr.
Mrs. Mize is survived by two nephews, Ernest B. Freeman, III of High Point, and Dr. Ray M. Freeman of Atlanta.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church in High Point, where Mrs. Mize was married to her beloved late husband fourty years ago. The service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 2, and and will be officiated by Rev. Debra Swing.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church 512 N Main St, High Point, NC 27260.
