Mary Nell Blake

High Point- Mary Nell Campbell Blake, 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

She was born on September 24, 1933, in Union County, NC. She was a resident of High Point most of her life. In 1953, Mary Nell graduated from High Point High School. She worked as an underwriter for Jefferson Pilot and retired with 50 years of service.

Mary Nell was a member of Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church for over 30 years; she was a member of Berean Sunday School, served on the Special Days Committee, and was a member of the XYZ Club. Mary Nell enjoyed the children’s ministry talent show fundraisers to support missions in and around her church. She was also an active member of the 60 Plus Club at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville, NC.

Mary Nell loved to travel with Jesse Hill Tours and Holiday Tours. Her favorite place to travel was to the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre in Virginia. She enjoyed exercising and eating breakfast with her friends. She loved spending time with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dalton Rex Blake Sr.

Mary Nell is survived by sons Dalton Rex Blake Jr. (Betty) and George "Andy" Blake (Lori); granddaughter, Christi Amber Blake; special cousin Sylvia Griggs; and special friends Kathy Comer, Sally Edmonds, Mandy and Kent Grainger, Betty Meeks, and Mable Sexton.

Memorials in Mary Nell’s memory may be made to Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church, 301 Hickory Chapel Road, High Point, NC 27260.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church in High Point. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 East Lexington Avenue in High Point.

Mary Nell lived across the street from me growing up. Always such a kind person, I would occasionally see her at the grocery store. It’s been awhile but I wanted to express my condolences. Love and prayers to her family.
