Mary Lou Cecil Brinson, age 102, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Mary was born in Randolph County, May 18, 1923, a daughter of the late Aros Coke Cecil and Nannie Louise Bowman Cecil. She graduated from High Point High School in 1940, Mary Baldwin College and UNC-Chapel Hill where she majored in pharmacy. After college she was manager of her father's office supply business. In 1946 she was married to J. Woody Brinson, who preceded her in death. She was a life time member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, received the Laity Service Award and served as past president of UMW. Mary was a sustaining member of the Junior League and was a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Salvation Army. She served as National Chaplain for Daughters of the American Colonists, was Regent and Treasurer of the Alexander Martin Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and a Girl Scout Leader. Mary served on the advisory board of GTCC and was a member of the High Point Study Club, serving as secretary for 28 years.
Surviving are her daughter, Nan Brinson Edwards and son, Jesse Cecil Brinson (Nancetta); a step-grandson, Robert L. Still and a step great-grandson, Robert "RJ" Still; and nieces and nephews, Mills Brinson, Robert A. Brinson, Meb Brinson Wentz, Sallie Brinson Cunningham, Rob Brinson, and beloved great and great-great nieces and nephews, and special goddaughter, Janet Roper Hamernick.
A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held Monday, October 13, 2025 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, High Point. The family will receive friends following the service in the Epworth Room. A private burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials should be directed to First United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Piedmont or the Hayworth Cancer Center. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mary's loyal caregivers and friends.
