

He graduated from Jamestown High School (now Ragsdale) where he lettered in football, basketball and track and was voted “Most Popular” in his senior class.
He graduated from High Point College (now University), where he was a member of the varsity basketball team and the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Following college graduation, he went to work for Drexel-Heritage Furnishings (D-H), where he worked for 35 years as a sales representative and regional sales manager for the Rocky Mountain and Midwest states. At various times in his career with D-H, he covered 23 states and 3 Canadian provinces. After retiring from D-H, he worked for 7 years as a sales representative in NC and SC for Martin Furniture, before retiring completely.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and Explorer Scouts, selected to the Honorary Order of the Arrow and was a swimming and marksmanship instructor at the Boy Scouts summer camps. He served 8 years in the US Army National Guard.
He had a full and very blessed life. He loved life, and never met a stranger. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, golf, working in the yard and reading. A favorite pastime was traveling with his wife on cruises and taking trips to the beach. The annual get-together at Myrtle Beach with the entire family and all of the grandchildren was a favorite event for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by an infant sister, Patty.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 54 years, Saundra McKinney Veach and two beloved daughters, Karen Eller and husband Tom of Louisville, KY and Kathryn Johnson and husband Lance of Greenville, SC; one brother Larry Veach and his wife, Diana, of Cary; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was especially proud of the accomplishments of his wife, 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, Lindsay, Casey, and Chance Eller and Chandler and Luke Johnson, and great-grandson, Beau Young. A highlight of the year was taking all of his grandchildren to Myrtle Beach.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in High Point. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12 at 11am, with a short reception to follow, both at First Presbyterian Church, 918 North Main St., High Point, with the Rev. Dr. Ken Broman-Fulks officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery, 5300 West Wendover Ave., High Point.
