Peggy Bowman Christy passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 18th, surrounded by family and friends. She was born to Fred and Ruth Jacobs Bowman on March 1, 1934, in Mount Airy and moved to High Point at age 15. Peggy was a retired employee of Western Electric, later AT&T, with 34 years of devoted service.
She was married to Everett Christy from 1955 until his death in 1985.
Peggy was a member of Northwood United Methodist Church for 50 years and a strong supporter of the United Methodist Women Fellowship and the Grace Sunday School Class. She later became a member of Conrad Memorial Baptist Church.
Peggy loved her family, her church and her friends. If you knew Peggy you loved her and knew that you were loved in return. She always saw the good in each person and spoke positive, kind words.
Peggy’s strongest attributes were her faith, hope and charity. Peggy had an abundance of love for everyone in her life.
In addition to her husband, Everett, Peggy was also preceded in death by her grandson, Kyle Cashwell.
Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Anne (Wes) Cashwell, Kim Christy and Penny Clark; four grandchildren, Rhett Glidewell, Carson (Olivia) Cashwell, Fallon Clark and Noah Clark; four great grandchildren, Grace Glidewell, Cooper Richardson, Wesley Cashwell and Arden Cashwell; great neice Renee Brucke; two surrogate granddaughters, Robin (Tim) Reuter and Rachel (Mike) Champa; and two surrogate great granddaughters, Maggie Reuter and Abby Reuter.
Peggy is also survived by a special neice and nephew, Jean Brucke and Freddy Brucke, special cousins Marie and Jeff Jacobs, Cora and Gene Jacobs, Kathy and Steve Jacobs, Denise and Patrick Brady, Gayle and Tommy Hicks, and Dennis Jacobs.
Peggy also left behind special friends Jim and Penny Kirkman, Billie Benfield, Bill and Edith Horne and David and Shirley Miller.
A memorial service celebrating Peggy’s life will be conducted at Conrad Memorial Baptist Church on Thursday, March 21st at 2 p.m., with Rev. Marcus Campbell, Rev. David Noyes and Wes Cashwell. Burial will be at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 1p.m. in the church sanctuary.
