Philip E. Hancock

Philip Ernest Hancock, 72, of High Point passed away October 17th at High Point Regional Hospital. Mr. Hancock was born March 17, 1941 in Star, NC a son to Ernest Dewey and Mae Hogan Hancock. He was a graduate of UNC at Charlotte and was a manager for General Motors Corporation. In his spare time he developed a talent for archery, working on cars, collecting and repairing old clocks and servicing very old watches. He was a member of Abbott’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by a son Shannon Jay Hancock in 2006. On February 4, 1962 he married the former Wanda Saunders who survives of the home. Also surviving are his daughter, Deana Hancock Adams and her husband Rick of Fort Worth, Texas and his Mother, Mae Hancock Terry of PennyByrn at Maryfield and his two sisters; Sylvia Hancock Ussery of High Point and Gaylene Piper of Greenville, NC A Memorial Service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Sechrest Funeral Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue by the Reverend Mark Hollar. The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association, 101 Centre Port Dr. Suite 103, Greensboro, 27409. Phil was such a kind man,we will miss seeing him riding up and down the street to do what ever needed doing at his mothers.He was a blessing to Megan to as she grew up. I am so sorry to hear of Philip's passing. I remember the Hancock family when Philip, Sylvia, and Gaylene were children and their father, Dr. Hancock, was our pastor at Faulks Baptist Church near Marshville, NC. The entire family was go greatly loved and respected by all of the people at Faulks.
