Mr. Simpson was born in Stanly county, N.C. to George A. and Helen Aycock Simpson on Sept. 4, 1927. He attended Norwood Schools in Norwood, NC and was employed by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department. He later became Chief of Police in Holden Beach, NC until retiring in 1991. Mr. Simpson was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William J. “Bill” Simpson.
He married Betty Sale Simpson who survives of the home. Also surviving are his sons, Randy Simpson and wife Libby of Lexington, and Mitchell Simpson and wife Amy of Tega Cay, SC. There are two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Simpson has two brothers,
Loyd M. Simpson of Trinity, and Lester T. Simpson of Tifton, Georgia.
A memorial service for Mr. Simpson will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Springfield Baptist Church by the Reverend Bobby L. Loving. Visitation will be at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point on Monday evening from 7-8:30 p.m.
