

Richard (Rick) Devon Powell, 65, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 17, 2026, at High Point Regional Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Thomasville, NC, Rick was born January 21, 1961. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Dosier and Bernice Powell and his son Wesley Devon Powell. He graduated from Ledford Senior High School in 1979 where he was known as an Elvis impersonator, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Rick worked with the City of High Point for many years and retired as a Wastewater Operator with Thomasville Wastewater Treatment Plant. His passion was tending to his dogs Tahla and Zeus, singing and recording songs, and various computer endeavors such as frequent comedic postings on Facebook that brought a great deal of laughter and joy to his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Madelene of the home; his son Andrew Durant Powell of Thomasville; grandson Jason Alexander Rodriguez, a Sailor stationed at Cherry Point Marine Base, grandson Wesley Allen Powell-Locklear of Thomasville, and grandson Ash Emory Powell of Thomasville; 2 brothers Anthony Powell of Thomasville, and Douglas Powell and his wife Tracy of Thomasville, and nephew Daniel Powell of Arlington, VA.
Rick's love and loyalty to his family will be greatly missed!
A Celebration of Rick's life will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home 976 Phillips Ave., High Point.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or to any animal rescue organization.
