Robert Ray Turnmire

Robert Ray Turnmire, 87, passed away on January 14, 2026. He was born on March 9, 1938, in Damascus, Virginia, to John and Lucille Ward Turnmire and grew up in the "hollars" of Virginia before moving to North Carolina for work. Robert was a shy and humble man, who was loved by all.

In 1959, Robert married the love of his life, Jewel. They have cherished 66 years of marriage together. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dayton Turnmire and John K. Turnmire Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife Jewel; two sons, Tony Turnmire (Donna) and David Turnmire (Marcia), six grandchildren: Madison Turnmire, Kristen Turnmire, Austin Turnmire, Samantha Turnmire, Sarah Cheek, and Savannah Cheek, two great-grandchildren, Braxton Hackett and Levi Turnmire and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two brothers, Terry Turnmire and Donald Turnmire.

A Graveside service for Robert will be at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 2 p.m. Daniel Gardner will be officiating.
