Savior on Saturday, June 24th, 2023.
Robert was born on January 12, 1931 to Robert and Carrie Wooten in Blacksburg, SC. He entered the Air Force at the age of 17 where he served for 6 years both home and abroad, and was honorably discharged as a Tech Sargent. Always entrepreneurial, he had his hand in a number of business interests before meeting Earl and Rachel Roberts, owners of small printing company in Welcome, NC. God’s timing is always perfect as the Roberts’ were looking to retire at the time. They worked out a deal giving he and his brother Jim a 1/3 interest in the company. Through countless hours of hard work he turned this small printing business into the highly successful Wooten Printing Company in Welcome, NC, where he served passionately as Owner and President for 34 years, retiring in 1992.
His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, never missing a sporting event or major life event. He led a grace-filled home full of unconditional love. He changed the trajectory of his family generationally coming from very poor beginnings, working tirelessly to offer them a better life and opportunities he didn’t have. He was deeply committed to his many employees and his clients at the printing company, building a family-oriented company and friendships that continue to this day. He served his community as a little league baseball coach, winning many championships, but more importantly loving and mentoring kids who didn’t have a great home life. In his retirement, he enjoyed delivering meals on wheels to shut-ins and to those in great need. His selflessness, humility, and work ethic were his greatest character traits, and endeared him to many.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Wilma Wooten; two brothers, John Wooten of Welcome, NC and James Wooten of Clemmons, NC; and three sisters, Frances Horne of Tyro, NC, Thelma Nordan of Florida, and Brenda Davis of Lexington, NC.
He is survived by a son, Robbie Wooten and his wife, Julie of High Point, NC; daughter, Melanie Wooten of High Point, NC; stepson Bobby Lain and his wife, Melinda of Indianapolis, IN; grandsons Ethan Wooten and Tristan Lain; and granddaughter, Ashton Wooten. He was one of nine children, and is survived by two brothers, Jerry Wooten of Trinity, NC, and Wayne Wooten of Troy, NC, and a sister, Alice Callicutt of Troy, NC.
